Our two new cruise passenger shelters are in place on Lambton Quay, and they're already being used by visitors waiting to head back to their vessels.

Cruise Shelters providing comfort on Lambton Quay

22 January 2025

We've been working closely with Wellington City Council, WellingtonNZ and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga to get these temporary shelters installed at the cruise shuttle stop outside the Old Government Buildings.

The shelters have been painted by local artist Theo Arraj. Theo has done some great work for us here at CentrePort in the past, including artwork on the shelters we installed at our Aotea Quay berth last year. We’re stoked that by repurposing assets we own already, we've found a sustainable solution for passenger shelter that provides some culture and extra colour for the city as well.

Cruise Shelters in use 2

We hope cruise passengers visiting Wellington get good use out of these shelters in the variable summer weather we are having at the moment.

The containers will remain in place until the end of April this year, and we have plans to bring them back for the 2025/2026 cruise season.
